Healthy Futures - Cory Davis

For the past three years Cory Davis has served in the Kitsap County AmeriCorps of Washington State. From the moment he was accepted the first time he has lived for AmeriCorps. The first year he worked with Children of The Nations. He would travel the county helping schools pack emergency meals and take the old ones and get them packed to be sent to third world country that needed the food. His second year he worked as a tutor in the schools. The kids he worked with looked forward to every day with him, and were disappointed when he was not able to be there, which was almost never. He helped improve the reading grades of all his students that year. This year Cory is working again with Children of The Nations working even harder to find fun ways to get the kids at the schools involved and excited about packing the food, and teaching them what is it they do with the food they don't use from last year. He is always thinking about what else he can do, stopping only to sleep. Literally. When Cory isn't working for AmeriCorps, he is volunteering at Coffee Oasis, a youth safe house/cafe. He dedicates long hours to helping the kids at that are there get resumes together, give them encouragement to not give up, and is there to just talk to them and show that someone does care. With everyone he has worked with, he has formed a bond that made his work in the community such a huge impact. Through his love for people and his want to make the community a better place, he has proven that living for others is more enriching than living for oneself.
