Education - The Public Service Residential Community at Central Michigan University Paying It Forward
The Public Service Residential Community (PSRC) at Central Michigan University (CMU) is a close-knit community comprised of first year students that are passionate and dedicated to making a difference and inspiring other students on campus to create social change. Through their coursework, they raise funds, volunteer and advocate for local nonprofits. In addition, PSRC has been fortunate to twice distribute additional monies to local nonprofits as a two-time recipient of Pay It Forward grant funds through Learn and Serve America.

My involvement with the PSRC has led me to be named CMU's Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact and a recipient of the Outstanding Commitment to Service by Michigan Campus Compact which is only given to 7 college students across the state of Michigan. Every student that is part of the PSRC benefits and has potential to receive these same awards with the great amount of community service work and community involvement that they take part in.

PSRC helped me to become acclimated on CMU's campus quickly. In my first week at college I had put in 8 hours of volunteer time with 39 of my peers. This group led me to many opportunities that I would not have known about otherwise that have all shaped the person that I am today. The volunteer efforts and dedication of this group have given me the drive to seek out opportunities to help other people in my community and to pass along the same love for service that is fostered in the PSRC to my peers and friends in the area and at home. I love that I was a member of this group and continue my involvement as a mentor to current students, helping them to take advantage of the resources the PSRC puts in our path.
