Economic Opportunity - The Model for Americorps Best Practices!
New Sector Alliance is an incredible organization that provides their Americorps members meaningful placements that match their professional development goals and meet the needs of partner organizations. In addition, they work with business leaders to serve as consultants and mentors to their Residents, providing ongoing support and professional development opportunities that help produce strong outputs for the organization and truly meet the goals of each Resident. During the last 10 years, New Sector Alliance has engaged over 1000 business leaders in this capacity, demonstrating the strong community impact and partnership this organization has been able to cultivate and develop to create one of the strongest Americorps programs I've seen.
At Women's Initiative, our Residents in Social Enterprise have been an integral part of helping to scale our organization by documenting and creating processes and procedures for the activities that make Women's Initiative successful. These systems have allowed us to achieve our goals and serve our clients more efficiently and have ensured a level of scaleability we would have been unable to achieve without them. Like Women's Initiative, 99% of nonprofit host sites have reported that New Sector had a measurable impact on their organizations and beneficiaries.
In addition, each of the Residents I have met have been incredibly high level and have communicated a sincere desire to contribute to the nonprofit sector as they continue to advance their careers. In terms of building a cohort of the best and brightest to do some of the hardest work out there, I don't think anyone is doing a better job of inspiring future nonprofit leaders than New Sector Alliance. They report that 95% of their cohorts have indicated that NSA's program has increased the effectiveness with which they contribute to the social sector.
New Sector Alliance is also well-positioned to grow, not only with the amount of interest in their program from nonprofits hoping to be placed with Residents and Fellows, but also with the incredible talent they bring in as Residents/Fellows and as business consultants and mentors. In 2012, NSA placed Residents/Fellows at 85 different nonprofits and these amazing Americorps members contributed more than 175,650 hours. 2600 hours were donated by business consultants/mentors and 132 emerging leaders join the nonprofit workforce this year by completing a Summer Fellowship or year-long Residency.
Women's Initiative works with many partner organizations and we have found New Sector Alliance to be one of the best partners we've worked with in terms of organization and professionalism, commitment to their mission and constituencies, and in the quality of the Residents we have had the privilege to work alongside for the last year. I am honored to recommend New Sector Alliance for this recognition for their commitment to National Service, their commitment to poverty alleviation in our communities, and to the quality of the program they produce.
