Delaware's New Castle County is unique in that most of the fire, rescue, EMT, fire prevention services are supported by willing volunteers. These are everyday heroes who offer their time, and dedication to protecting surrounding communities. Now more than ever, they need our help.

The New Castle County Emergency Services Corps is an AmeriCorps Program created as a partnership between New Castle County Government, New Castle County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, and the YMCA of Delaware’s Resource Center. Our mission is to increase the safety of our community by supporting its volunteer fire and emergency services.

Created in 2005 to address the critical staffing needs of volunteer fire companies in New Castle County, the ESC places AmeriCorps members in volunteer fire companies and emergency management agencies where they gain experience in emergency service efforts to recruit new volunteers. Members support local fire companies by teaching CPR and first aid classes and promoting fire prevention throughout the community.
