Healthy Futures - Logan & Robinson Family Advocacy Center
Ida Barnette, “Sees a Need and Owns It!
Ida Barnette, an AmeriCorps Vista Alumni and present Spartanburg, SC District 7 AmeriCorps volunteer, "Sees a Need and Owns It!" Ida Barnette became Founder and Executive Director of the Logan & Robinson Family Advocacy Center after volunteering to assist youth and their families. Ms. Carlette Harden, a member of the Leland Housing complex Residential Council in Spartanburg, SC had informed Ida that the healthy food program had been cut. The kids in Ms. Harden neighborhood would be without healthy meals this summer if someone did not intervene. Ida decided that she would make sure that the kids would be served and receive healthy meals. As a result of her efforts over 30 youth were served healthy meals, and received life and educational skills, tours, mentorship training, fun physical activities and hobbies during the summer. Without her assistance, many of these kids would have been unable to receive healthy meals and/or would have ended up on the streets during the summer months when school was out. She solicited help from volunteers in the community, as well as, created partnership with local organizations and ministries to serve community youth and families.
