Disaster Services - AmeriCorps: Expanding Alabama's Capacity to respond to Disaster

Timberly Williams, an AmeriCorps VISTA has worked tirelessly for the past three years to expand our agency's capacity to answer the call for help after a disaster. She has worked closely with special needs populations to prepare hundreds of Alabamians before disaster strikes and travelled around the state to volunteer after the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak. Timberly is now a part of the volunteer Certified Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Montgomery and continues to speak to any and every community group that will listen about the importance of disaster preparedness and response. She has also created a powerful video to reflect the work of volunteers in Cullman, Alabama after last years tornadoes. Timberly single-handedly trained over 4,000 volunteers last year on how to be safe "in the field" removing debris and cleaning up tornado impacted areas. She is a valuable asset to our organization and to the AmeriCorps program.
