Disaster Services - Rebecca Uva Shines at the American Red Cross of Eastern MA
I nominate Rebecca Uva, for the Service Impact award for Disaster Services. Rebecca is currently serving as the Community Outreach Coordinator in Disaster Services, for the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. During her first week at the Red Cross, she received on the job training while responding to community needs for shelter and assistance following a major tornado and Hurricane Irene. During her 8 months of service, she voluntarily responded to more than 15 local fires, worked in three emergency shelters and has managed two, helping to house, feed, and clothe nearly 200 disaster victims. Following all of these disasters, Rebecca also provided assistance with case work, to ensure that all impacted families were safe and that their basic human needs were met. As a coordinator in Disaster Services, Rebecca has worked with emergency response officials and representatives from thirty-five towns, to update their sheltering and emergency response plans. She has delivered educational presentations on disaster preparedness to more than 1,200 Eastern Massachusetts residents. Additionally, she has trained several Red Cross volunteers as Community Disaster Education Leaders, so that they may continue preparing local communities after her year of service is concluded. Rebecca volunteers her time as an official trainer of American Red Cross Disaster Overview and Shelter Management courses. She also helped plan and organize the very first American Red Cross Health and Safety Fair, in the Eastern Massachusetts region. I can not think of anyone who deserves recognition for Disaster Services more than Rebecca Uva does, and I sincerely hope that you consider her for this award.
