Disaster Services - Disaster and Health Education to over 10,000 Youth in Eastern Massachusetts!

Shawna Dias is an Americorp member serving at the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts as the Community & Schools Program Specalist. Shawna has not only taught over 1000 students the importance of disaster preparedness and health education (choke save and basic first aid), she has also established important partnerships to reach out to even more youth in the community. One of these partnerships is with the Boy Scouts of Massachusetts, where the Red Cross will train over 10,000 Boy Scouts at their SOAR event in October for their Ready Man Badge. Shawna has helped train Red Cross volunteers and community members in Disaster Preparedness so they can themselves reach out to families and individuals within their communities. Shawna works tirelessly finding new ways to reach out to communities to prepare them for disasters and involving youth in disaster preparedness, including working on the Youth Talent Show and organizing the first health and wellness fair by the Red Cross in Massachusetts Bay which took place in April this year.
