Education - STEM Education through Aloha

When thinking of Hawai’i, it’s not unusual to imagine a quintessential place surrounded by beaches, harmony, and beauty. Unfortunately, the many issues that concern our present societies reach all corners of the world, including Paradise. My dedication over the past few months has been towards increasing interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education amongst students of all ages, in particular 6th graders & up. This determination has led to the opening of a science center, the empowerment of students, and amazing new friendships from beautiful cultures. My work also led me to a collaboration in the creation of a database which will be giving me the opportunity to speak about this project at the Community College National Center for Community Engagement Conference in Arizona later on in May, I am truly thankful in how much CNCS, AmeriCorps, and Service-Learning have given me, in quantities I cannot measure, and how much I have learned as a member of my community and of the world.
