Education - AmeriCorps VISTA—Idaho’s Secret 23,000 Children
The 211/Navigation Idaho KinCare VISTA Project is an AmeriCorps VISTA project currently in its third year. The project is a statewide effort to provide education, resources and social supports for grandparents and other relatives raising the children in their care. In Idaho there are currently approximately 23,000 children living with extended family members. Many of the relative care givers are older, on fixed incomes, and socially isolated. Research indicates that children are more successful when they live with family members as opposed to system based care relationships such as foster care. The KinCare VISTA project in Idaho supports extended family members and the children for whom they care, building a better future for families in Idaho.
