With the goal of improving the health and quality of life of older adults in Maricopa County, Arizona AmeriCorps program, Los Ancianos: Seniors Serving Seniors engages 10, age 55+ AmeriCorps members as Wellness Coordinators to implement wellness programs at 10 senior centers, primarily serving rural, minority and/or low income communtities. Los Ancianos specifically wanted to tap into the wisdom, skills and knowledge of older adults by recruiting all age 55+ members.

The program exceeded its goal of enrolling 120 participants, by enrolling nearly 300 older adults. Los Ancianos has been transformational for AmeriCorps members and participants by improving their mental and physical health and enhancing their quality of life.
